Ash-Shakur

Text Size:
Ash-Shakur is a Name of Allah translated as "The Most Appreciative" or "The Grateful." Although Allah is self-sufficient and does not need anything from His creation, He is Ash-Shakur in the sense that He recognizes and rewards even the smallest good deeds performed by His servants. He multiplies the rewards for sincere actions and overlooks many shortcomings. This attribute encourages believers to never belittle any act of kindness, charity, or worship, as God is mindful of every effort. It fosters a relationship of love and gratitude, where the servant tries to be thankful to God, and God, in His infinite grace, rewards that gratitude with even more blessings and spiritual growth. Ash-Shakur (The Most Grateful) is the Name of Allah signifying that He rewards even the smallest "Amal Salih" (righteous deed) with an immense, multiplied reward. He appreciates the "Shukr" (gratitude) of His servants. For the "Ummah," this Name is a source of "Raja" (hope). It teaches the "Mu'min" that no effort made for the sake of Allah is ever wasted. It encourages a life of "Ihsan" (excellence), as the believer knows that their Lord is Ash-Shakur, who grants "Barakah" in the "Dunya" and "Jannah" in the "Akhirah." The Name Ash-Shakur appears in the Quran: "Indeed, Allah is Appreciative (Ash-Shakur), All-Knowing" (2:158). This pairing emphasizes that Allah knows every deed and appreciates it. Understanding Ash-Shakur encourages believers to do good. No matter how small, Ash-Shakur appreciates it. The Prophet said: "Do not belittle any good deed, even meeting your brother with a cheerful face" (Muslim). Ash-Shakur also gives hope. When believers feel their deeds are insignificant, they know that Ash-Shakur multiplies them. The Quran says: "Whoever does an atom's weight of good will see it" (99:7). The ultimate appreciation is on the Day of Judgment, when Ash-Shakur will reward the believers beyond what they deserve. The believer lives in hope of that reward, striving to do good, knowing that Ash-Shakur appreciates every effort.
