Tasbeeh (glorification) refers to the act of declaring Allah's perfection and transcendence above any imperfection, limitation, or association with creation. The term derives from the root s-b-h, implying swimming or moving swiftly-suggesting that the one engaged in tasbeeh moves swiftly toward Allah by acknowledging His absolute purity. The most common phrase of tasbeeh is "Subhan Allah" (Glory be to Allah), meaning "I declare Allah free from any imperfection, deficiency, or partner." The Quran commands tasbeeh frequently: "So exalt (sabbih) the name of your Lord, the Most Great" (56:74). It also describes all creation engaged in tasbeeh: "The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [Allah] by His praise" (17:44). Tasbeeh may be performed verbally, mentally, or through contemplation of creation's signs (ayat). It is particularly recommended after prayers, with the Prophet teaching to say "Subhan Allah" 33 times after each prayer. Tasbeeh purifies the heart from false conceptions of Allah, cultivates humility, and aligns the believer with all creation's natural worship. Regular tasbeeh develops awareness of Allah's majesty and one's own servitude. The practice transcends mere repetition, becoming a transformative spiritual exercise connecting the servant to the Creator through acknowledgment of His absolute perfection.
