Ashura

Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, and holds deep religious and historical significance. For Sunni Muslims, it is a day of fasting in gratitude to Allah for saving Prophet Musa (Moses) and the Israelites from the tyranny of Pharaoh. For Shia Muslims, it is a day of intense mourning and commemoration of the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (RA), the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), at the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE. It is a day to reflect on the courage of Musa, who stood against Pharaoh, and the courage of Hussain, who stood against tyranny.
