Malhamah al-Kubra refers to the "Great Battle" in Islamic eschatology, which is often compared to the concept of Armageddon. It is described as a monumental conflict that will take place between the forces of the believers and the forces of falsehood in the end times. Hadith narrations suggest this battle will be incredibly fierce and will occur shortly before the appearance of the Dajjal and the return of Isa (AS). It serves as a symbolic and literal representation of the final struggle between truth and deception, reminding Muslims to remain prepared and steadfast in their faith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) described the Malhamah: "The Great Battle will take place between the Muslims and the Romans (the West). The Muslims will gather for it from across the earth, and it will be the fiercest battle. The Romans will gather an army of eighty banners, each with twelve thousand men. The Muslims will fight them and will be victorious" (Muslim). This battle is one of the major signs of the end times. It will be a time of great trial and sacrifice. Many will be martyred, and the believers will be tested severely. The Prophet said that during this battle, one-third of the Muslim army will flee, one-third will be martyred, and one-third will be victorious. The Malhamah will be followed by the appearance of the Dajjal and the descent of Isa (peace be upon him). The battle is a prelude to the final confrontation with falsehood. For believers, the Malhamah al-Kubra is a reminder that the path of truth is not without struggle. The believers will face opposition and trial, but ultimately they will be victorious. They prepare for these trials by strengthening their faith, increasing their good deeds, and remaining steadfast in their commitment to Allah. The Great Battle also teaches the importance of unity. The believers will gather from across the earth to confront falsehood. They will be united in purpose and faith. For believers, this is a call to unity, to overcome divisions and work together for the truth. The Malhamah is also a test of faith. Many will flee; many will be martyred; only the steadfast will be victorious. The believer strives to be among the steadfast, trusting in Allah's promise of victory. The ultimate victory belongs to the believers. After the Malhamah, the Dajjal will appear, but he will be defeated by Isa (peace be upon him). Then justice will be established, and the earth will be filled with peace. The believer awaits that victory with hope, while striving to be among those who are steadfast through the trials. The Malhamah al-Kubra is a reminder that this life is a test, and the ultimate reward is for those who remain faithful through trial. The believer lives with that awareness, striving to be among the victorious.
