Fasid

Fasid, which translates to "irregular" or "vitiated," refers to an Islamic legal contract or act of worship that is basically sound in its core elements but contains an external flaw or a condition that violates the rules of the "Shariah." In Hanafi jurisprudence, a Fasid contract is distinguished from a "Batil" (null and void) contract; while a Batil contract has no legal effect whatsoever, a Fasid contract can sometimes be "rectified" if the illegal condition is removed, or it may carry limited legal consequences (such as the transfer of ownership once possession is taken, though the transaction remains sinful). For example, a sale that is sound but includes an unlawful interest clause is considered Fasid.

Theologically, the category of Fasid highlights the Islamic commitment to "Adl" (justice) and "Itqan" (perfection) in all dealings. It teaches the believer that even a small deviation from the Divine command can spoil the purity and the "Barakah" (blessing) of an action.
