The people of "Ad" were an ancient, powerful tribe sent the Prophet Hud (AS). They were known for their physical strength and their magnificent architectural feats, building lofty pillars in the city of Iram. However, they became arrogant and turned to idolatry, believing that no power could overcome them. Despite Hud’s warnings, they refused to repent. Consequently, Allah sent a fierce, cold wind that lasted for seven nights and eight days, turning them into hollow trunks of palm trees. Their story is cited repeatedly in the Quran as a warning against the hubris of civilizations that forget their dependence on the Divine.
