Text Size:
Naqatullah (The She-Camel of Allah) refers to the miraculous camel sent to the people of Thamud as a sign through the Prophet Salih (AS). The camel was a test: the people were commanded to let her graze freely and share their water with her. When the people arrogantly hamstrung and killed the camel, they were destroyed by a Divine punishment. Naqatullah serves as a powerful Quranic symbol of the sanctity of God's signs and the severe consequences of animal cruelty and religious defiance. The story of the she-camel of Allah (naqatullah) is told in Surah al-A'raf, Hud, and al-Shu'ara. The people of Thamud demanded a sign from the Prophet Salih (peace be upon him). Allah sent a she-camel, miraculously emerging from a rock. The camel was a test. The people were told: "Let her graze freely and do not harm her" (7:73). She was to have her share of water, and they theirs. But the people were arrogant. They hamstrung the camel and killed her. They challenged Salih: "Bring us what you promise if you are truthful" (7:77). The punishment came: an earthquake seized them, and they were destroyed. The story of the she-camel is a warning. It shows the consequences of arrogance, defiance of Allah's signs, and cruelty to animals. The camel was a sign of Allah's power, and harming her was harming the sign. For believers, naqatullah is a reminder to respect Allah's signs, to be humble, and to avoid cruelty to animals. The believer does not arrogantly reject signs, does not harm what Allah has blessed, and learns from the fate of those who did.
