Thuluth

الثلث
Text Size:
Thuluth (One-Third) refers to the specific portion of inheritance allocated in Islamic law to certain heirs under prescribed conditions. According to the Quran in Surah An-Nisa (4:11), the mother of the deceased receives one-third of the estate if there are no children. Additionally, the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) permitted the bequest of up to one-third of one's estate to non-heirs. This concept represents the peak of Islamic legal Itqan (perfection) and the Nur (light) of a faith that established precise and just distribution of wealth. Thuluth serves as a definitive Hujjah (proof) of the high status and the meticulous care of the Islamic tradition in protecting the rights of all family members, providing the Ummah with a stable and verified framework for inheritance that ensures justice for the pleasure of their Lord.

Theologically, the inheritance share of one-third is a manifestation of the principle of Divine Justice (Adl) and the Hikmah (wisdom) of Divine law in the organization of family economics. It reflects the Nur of a faith that views the distribution of wealth as a primary means of attaining Tazkiyah (purification) of the community. The precise mathematical calculations of inheritance in Islamic law serve as a Burhan (proof) of the intellectual vitality and the resilience of the Islamic character, which prioritizes the protection of the vulnerable. This history reflects the Mizan (balance) between the rights of the individual and the stability of the family unit. Historically, the implementation of these inheritance laws provided the Ummah with the social resilience and the stability needed to build flourishing civilizations based on the rule of law. It underscores the absolute duty of every believer to honor the inheritance rights of their family and to be a witness to humanity through the power of integrity and radiant achievement.

For the modern Ummah, the legacy of Thuluth is a source of immense pride and a roadmap for contemporary social and financial reform. It teaches the believers the value of justice, the beauty of unshakeable faith, and the importance of maintaining an ethical and honest relationship with wealth. In a modern world often characterized by inheritance disputes and the erosion of family rights, the tradition of "The One-Third Share" provides a roadmap for the pursuit of social harmony and the protection of human dignity through institutional excellence. It encourages a culture of Ihsan (excellence) and communal responsibility.
