Ar-Rafi (The Exalter) is the Name of Allah signifying that He is the One who raises the status of the "Mu'mineen" in this life and the "Akhirah." He exalts those who have "Iman" and "Ilm." This is the counterpart to "Al-Khafid." For the "Ummah," this Name is a reminder that true honor is a gift from Allah. It encourages the believer to seek "Izzah" (honor) through "Ubudiyyah" (servitude) and "Tawadu" (humility), knowing that whoever humbles themselves for Allah, He will exalt them. The Name Ar-Rafi appears in Hadith (as part of the 99 Names). It indicates that Allah raises the status of those who believe, who are humble, and who seek His pleasure. Understanding Ar-Rafi gives hope to the humble. The believer who feels lowly, who is overlooked, who is oppressed, they know that Ar-Rafi can raise them. The Prophet said: "Whoever humbles himself for Allah, Allah will raise him" (Muslim). This is the promise of Ar-Rafi. Ar-Rafi also relates to the elevation of knowledge. Allah raises those who have knowledge. The Quran says: "Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge, by degrees" (58:11). The believer seeks beneficial knowledge, knowing that Ar-Rafi will raise them through it. The Name also calls believers to seek true honor. The highest honor is being close to Allah. The believer does not seek status from people, wealth, or power, but from Ar-Rafi. The Prophet said: "Whoever desires honor, then to Allah belongs all honor" (35:10). The ultimate exaltation is in Paradise, where Ar-Rafi will raise the believers to the highest ranks, to the company of the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs, and the righteous. The believer lives in humility, seeking the exaltation that comes from Ar-Rafi, knowing that the One who lowers the arrogant will raise the humble.
