A Khatib is the person who delivers the "Khutbah" (sermon) during the Friday (Jumu’ah) prayer or the Eid prayers. The role of the Khatib is vital for the spiritual and social education of the community. Traditionally, the Khatib stands on a "Minbar" (pulpit) to speak. A good Khatib follows the Sunnah of the Prophet by keeping the sermon concise, relevant, and centered on the Quran and Sunnah. The sermon usually consists of two parts, separated by a brief sitting. The Khatib’s primary goal is to remind the believers of their duties toward Allah, provide guidance on contemporary challenges, and inspire the congregation to improve their character and social conduct.
