Makkah

Makkah (Mecca) is the holiest city in Islam, located in the Hijaz region of Saudi Arabia. It is the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the site of the first revelation of the Quran. Makkah is home to the Ka’ba, the House of Allah, located within the Masjid al-Haram. Every Muslim is required to face Makkah during their daily prayers and to perform the Hajj pilgrimage there at least once in their lifetime if they are able. Makkah is a "Haram" (sacred sanctuary) where violence, hunting, and even the cutting of trees are forbidden. It is the spiritual epicenter of the world for nearly two billion people, symbolizing the unity and the ancient monotheistic heritage of all mankind. Makkah is the most sacred city in Islam. It is the birthplace of the Prophet and the place where the first revelation came. It is the location of the Kaaba, the first house of worship established for humanity, built by Prophet Ibrahim and his son Isma'il. The Kaaba is the Qibla,the direction Muslims face in prayer. Muslims from all over the world turn toward Makkah five times a day, uniting them in worship. Makkah is a Haram (sanctuary). Within its boundaries, certain actions are forbidden: violence, fighting, hunting, and even cutting trees or grass. This sanctity emphasizes peace and security. The Quran says: "And [by] this secure city [Makkah]" (95:3). Makkah is the destination of Hajj, the fifth pillar of Islam. Millions of Muslims gather there annually, performing the pilgrimage that symbolizes the unity of the Ummah and the submission to Allah. Makkah is also the destination of Umrah, the lesser pilgrimage that can be performed year-round. Muslims who are able aspire to visit Makkah and pray in the Masjid al-Haram. The city holds a special place in the hearts of Muslims. It is the place where they feel closest to Allah, where their prayers are most likely to be answered, and where they can perform the rituals that connect them to the legacy of Ibrahim and Muhammad. Makkah is not just a city but a symbol of the unity and centrality of faith. It reminds that no matter where Muslims are, they turn toward the same direction, worship the same God, and belong to the same Ummah. It is the heart of the Islamic world, the destination of pilgrims, and the focus of the believers' devotion.
