The Lawh al-Mahfuz is the "Preserved Tablet"-the celestial record in which Allah has written everything that has happened and everything that will happen until the Day of Judgment. The Quran (85:22) itself is recorded in this Tablet. It is the ultimate manifestation of "Qadar" (Divine Decree) and "Ilm" (Divine Knowledge). For the believer, the concept of the Lawh al-Mahfuz is a source of "Tawakkul" (reliance); it means that nothing happens by chance and that the "Pen" has already been lifted. This certainty provides peace in times of trial and humility in times of success.
