Thawab (spiritual reward) is the divine recompense that Allah grants to believers for righteous deeds, sincere worship, and good intentions. The concept is fundamental to Islamic theology, motivating Muslims to perform acts of obedience and avoid sin. The Quran repeatedly promises great Thawab for those who believe and do good deeds: "Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while being a believer – We will surely cause them to live a good life and will surely give them their reward (ajrahum) according to the best of what they used to do" (16:97). Thawab encompasses rewards in both this world and the Hereafter, with the ultimate reward being Paradise (Jannah) and Allah's pleasure (Ridwan). During Ramadan, the Thawab for all good deeds is believed to be multiplied significantly, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever draws near to Allah during it (Ramadan) with a single characteristic of goodness, is like one who performs an obligatory act in other times, and whoever performs an obligatory act during it is like one who performs seventy obligatory acts in other times" (Ibn Khuzaymah). Thawab is not limited to ritual worship but includes all beneficial actions done with sincere intention (Niyyah), such as seeking knowledge, earning a halal livelihood, and serving others. The concept encourages believers to maximize their good deeds and constantly renew their intentions for Allah's sake alone.
