ابن كثير
Text Size:
Ibn Kathir (1301–1373 CE) was a highly influential Syrian scholar, historian, and mufassir (commentator of the Quran). He is most famous for his monumental work, Tafsir al-Quran al-Azim, which is widely considered the most authoritative interpretation of the Quran based on Hadith (Tafsir bi-al-Ma'thur). His historical work, Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah (The Beginning and the End), tracks human history from the creation of the world to the end of time. His methodology focused on the reliability of sources, making his works a cornerstone for both scholars and laypeople seeking to understand Islamic scripture and history. Imam Ismail ibn Kathir was born in Busra, Syria, in 701 AH (1301 CE). He was a student of Ibn Taymiyyah and Ibn al-Qayyim. He became a scholar of Hadith, tafsir, and history. His Tafsir al-Quran al-Azim (The Great Commentary) is one of the most widely used tafsirs. He explains the Quran by the Quran first, then by Hadith, then by the sayings of the companions. His methodology is reliable and clear. His Al-Bidayah wa al-Nihayah (The Beginning and the End) is a comprehensive history of the world from creation to the Hereafter. He died in Damascus in 774 AH (1373 CE). For believers, Ibn Kathir is a model of scholarship and reliability. His tafsir is a trusted resource for understanding the Quran. His history provides insight into Islamic civilization. The believer learns from him to rely on authentic sources, to combine knowledge of Quran and history, and to seek understanding of Allah's guidance.
