Akbar means "Greater" or "Greatest." It is the superlative of "Kabir." It is most famously used in the "Takbir" (Allahu Akbar), the opening call of the "Adhan" and "Salah." By declaring "Allahu Akbar," the believer acknowledges that Allah is greater than their worries, their ego, their enemies, and the entire "Dunya." It is a declaration of "Tawheed" that humbles the "Nafs" (self) and provides "Quwwah" (strength) to the "Mu'min." In Islamic history, the term also relates to "Al-Jihad al-Akbar" (The Greatest Struggle)-the inner battle against one’s own base desires to achieve "Tazkiyah" (purification).
