Adalah (Justice/Equity) is a core value of the "Shariah," representing the command of Allah to "be just, even if it be against yourselves." It is the foundation of Islamic "Fiqh" and governance. For the "Ummah," "Adalah" is not just a legal concept but a spiritual "Amanah" (trust). It ensures the "Huquq" (rights) of the poor, the orphan, and the "Dhimmi" are protected. A society built on "Adalah" reflects the "Nur" (light) of Divine guidance, fostering "Salam" (peace) and "Ikhwah" (brotherhood) by treating every "Nafs" with the dignity it deserves. The Quran commands: "O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness" (5:8). This verse establishes justice as an absolute, not to be compromised by personal feelings or relationships. Justice must be applied to friend and foe alike, to oneself and to others. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The just will be on pulpits of light on the Day of Judgment" (Muslim). This emphasizes the high status of those who uphold justice. Justice is not only a social principle but a spiritual one. It is the balance (mizan) that Allah has established in creation. The believer strives to embody justice in all dealings: in speech, in business, in judgment, and in relationships. Adalah also includes fairness in weighing evidence, impartiality in judgment, and equity in distribution. In Islamic law, justice is the foundation of all rulings. The objectives of the Shariah (maqasid) are all aimed at establishing justice: protecting life, property, intellect, religion, and lineage. For believers, Adalah is a daily practice. They are just in their words, not bearing false witness. They are just in their dealings, not cheating or exploiting. They are just in their judgments, not favoring one over another unjustly. They are just in their relationships, giving everyone their due. Justice also requires standing against oppression. The believer does not remain silent when injustice occurs; they speak out and act to restore justice. The Prophet said: "Help your brother, whether he is the oppressor or the oppressed." When asked how to help an oppressor, he said: "By preventing him from oppressing" (Bukhari). Adalah is a path to Paradise. The just will be honored by Allah, and the unjust will face consequences. The believer strives to be among the just, knowing that Allah loves those who are just. The ultimate justice is with Allah, who will judge all with perfect equity on the Day when no soul will be wronged.
