Al-Mahdi (The Rightly Guided One) is the promised leader who will appear in the "Akhir al-Zaman" (End Times) to fill the earth with "Adalah" (justice) and peace, just as it had been filled with "Zulm" (oppression). He is a descendant of the Prophet (PBUH) and will lead the "Ummah" alongside Prophet Isa (AS). For Muslims, the coming of the Mahdi is a source of "Raja" (hope) during times of severe "Fitna." It serves as a reminder that the ultimate victory belongs to the "Haqq" (truth) and the righteous believers. The Mahdi is mentioned in numerous authentic Hadith. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The Mahdi will appear at the end of my Ummah. Allah will send rain, the earth will produce its vegetation, wealth will be distributed fairly, and the Ummah will be in a good state" (Ibn Majah). He also said: "The Mahdi is from my family, from the descendants of Fatimah" (Abu Dawud). The Mahdi will appear before the descent of Isa (peace be upon him). He will be a just ruler, filling the earth with justice as it was filled with oppression. He will distribute wealth fairly, and the Ummah will experience peace and prosperity. His rule will be a time of blessing. The Mahdi will be supported by the believers. They will pledge allegiance to him, and he will lead them against the forces of falsehood. He will face opposition, but he will ultimately prevail. The Prophet said: "The Mahdi will be supported by the people of the East, who will bring black banners" (Ahmad). The Mahdi will not claim prophethood; he is a just leader. His role is to establish justice and prepare the way for the return of Isa. When Isa descends, the Mahdi will step back, and Isa will lead the believers. For believers, the coming of the Mahdi is a source of hope. In times of oppression and injustice, they know that Allah will send a leader to restore justice. They pray for his appearance and prepare for the end times by strengthening their faith and doing good deeds. The Mahdi is not a figure to be worshipped or awaited passively. Believers are to work for justice in their own time, while hoping for the ultimate justice that the Mahdi will establish. They strive to be among those who support him when he appears. The Prophet also warned about false claimants. There will be many who claim to be the Mahdi, but the true Mahdi will have specific signs. The believer is not to be deceived by false claimants but to await the true Mahdi who will appear with the signs described in authentic Hadith. The ultimate hope is the victory of truth and the establishment of justice. The believer lives with that hope, working for justice in their own sphere, and trusting that Allah's promise will be fulfilled.
