Text Size:
Al-Kabir (The Most Great) is the Name of Allah signifying His absolute, infinite greatness in Essence, Attributes, and Deeds. He is far greater than anything we can imagine, and no "Makhluq" (created being) can truly grasp His majesty. For the "Ummah," this Name is a reminder of "Tawadu" (humility); if Allah is Al-Kabir, then man must remain humble. It provides the believer with "Izzah" (honor), knowing that because their Lord is the Greatest, they need not fear any earthly power or "Zalim" (oppressor). Al-Kabir (The Most Great) is the Name of Allah signifying that His Essence and Attributes are beyond any limit or comparison. He is "Akbar" (greater) than everything we can imagine. We begin every "Salah" with "Allahu Akbar" to drive out the "Dunya" from our hearts. For the "Mu'min," Al-Kabir is the source of "Izzah"; when we realize how "Great" our Lord is, the threats and temptations of the world become small and insignificant in our eyes. The Name Al-Kabir appears in the Quran: "He is the Most High, the Most Great (Al-Kabir)" (22:62). This pairing emphasizes Allah's absolute greatness. Understanding Al-Kabir humbles the believer. They know that compared to Al-Kabir, they are small. They do not become arrogant about their accomplishments, knowledge, or status. The Prophet said: "Allah said: 'Greatness is My cloak and pride is My garment; whoever competes with Me in them, I will punish him'" (Abu Dawud). Al-Kabir also gives courage. When facing tyrants or difficulties, the believer knows that Al-Kabir is greater. The ultimate greatness is on the Day of Judgment, when Al-Kabir will manifest His greatness to all creation. The believer lives in humility and courage, trusting that the Greatest is their Lord.
