As-Sami (The All-Hearing) is the Name of Allah signifying that He hears every sound, every "Dua" (supplication), and every secret whisper of the heart. Distance, language, or silence do not hinder His hearing. For the "Ummah," this Name is a source of "Sakina" (calm). It reassures the "Mu'min" that they are never alone; their Lord is always listening to their pain and their prayers. It also serves as a "Muraqabah" (reminder) to guard the tongue from "Ghibah" (backbiting) and falsehood. The Name As-Sami appears frequently in the Quran: "And He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing" (42:11). This pairing emphasizes that Allah not only hears but also sees. Understanding As-Sami gives comfort to the believer. When they pray, they know that As-Sami hears. When they cry in the night, they know that As-Sami hears. The Prophet said: "Your Lord is modest and generous; when His servant raises his hands to Him, He is too modest to return them empty" (Abu Dawud). This is the response of As-Sami. As-Sami also warns against sin. The believer knows that every word they speak is heard by As-Sami. They guard their tongue from backbiting, slander, and falsehood. The Prophet said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent" (Bukhari). As-Sami also calls believers to be attentive to others. Just as Allah hears His servants, believers should listen to each other,to the needs of the poor, the cries of the oppressed, the concerns of family. The Prophet said: "The believer is one from whose tongue and hand people are safe" (Bukhari). The ultimate hearing is on the Day of Judgment, when As-Sami will hear every testimony, every denial, every confession. The believer lives with the awareness that As-Sami hears all, and they strive to fill their record with words that will please the All-Hearing.
