Dua Al-Evening

أذكار المساء
Text Size:
Dua al-Evening (Adhkar al-Masa) refers to a collection of specific supplications and Quranic verses, such as the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and An-Nas), recited daily between the Asr and Maghrib prayers. These evening remembrances serve as a spiritual shield for the night, seeking Allah's protection from the evils of the dark, the whispers of Shaytan, and any harm that may occur while resting. They include expressions of gratitude for the day passed and requests for well-being and safety, ensuring the believer ends their day in a state of God-consciousness and divine security. The evening adhkar are derived from the Sunnah. The Prophet (peace be upon him) would recite specific supplications in the evening to seek protection for the night. Among these are: "Amsayna wa amsa al-mulku lillah, walhamdu lillah..." (We have reached the evening and the dominion is Allah's...). The evening adhkar include reciting Ayat al-Kursi (2:255) and the Mu'awwidhatayn (Surahs Al-Falaq and Al-Nas) three times each. The Prophet said: "Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi after each prayer, nothing prevents him from entering Paradise except death" (Nasa'i). They also include seeking forgiveness and protection from evil. The Prophet said: "Whoever says in the evening: 'I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created,' nothing will harm him that night" (Tirmidhi). The evening adhkar also include expressions of gratitude. The believer thanks Allah for the day that has passed, for the blessings received, and for the opportunity to worship. They also include declarations of faith, affirming the oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (peace be upon him). For believers, the evening adhkar are a daily practice. They recite them with presence and reflection, knowing that they are protected for the night. They end their day in remembrance of Allah, seeking His mercy and protection, and preparing for the night's rest. The evening adhkar are a spiritual shield, protecting from harm, and a source of peace, calming the heart before sleep.
