Jalla Jalaluh

Jalla Jalaluh is an Arabic honorific meaning "Great is His Majesty" or "Mighty is His Glory." It is used exclusively for Allah to acknowledge His absolute power, sovereignty, and splendor. This phrase is often found in Islamic calligraphy and classical texts. For the believer, uttering Jalla Jalaluh is a way to instill a sense of "Haiba" (awe and reverence) in the heart. It reminds the individual that Allah is the King of kings and the Lord of the worlds, whose glory is beyond human comprehension and whose authority is absolute over all existence. The phrase is derived from the root "jalla," meaning to be great, exalted, or magnificent. "Jalaluh" refers to His majesty, grandeur, and overwhelming splendor. The honorific is often used in contexts where Allah's power, dominion, or overwhelming greatness is being discussed. It appears frequently in the Quran in verses describing Allah's sovereignty: "Blessed is the name of your Lord, Owner of Majesty and Honor" (55:78). Jalla Jalaluh is also part of the phrase "Jalla Jalaluh" that is sometimes inscribed in mosques and on Islamic art, serving as a constant reminder of divine majesty.
