Qadr (Power/Value) often refers to "Laylat al-Qadr" (The Night of Power). It also carries the meaning of the "measure" or "limit" of things. In this sense, everything in the universe has been created with a specific "Qadr",a precise proportion and purpose. Nothing in Allah's creation is random or accidental. For the believer, recognizing the Qadr of things leads to a deeper appreciation of the Creator's infinite wisdom and the intricate balance of the cosmos. The word qadr appears in the Quran in various contexts. In Surah al-Qadr (97), it refers to the Night of Power when the Quran was revealed: "Indeed, We sent it down during the Night of Qadr" (97:1). This night is described as "better than a thousand months" (97:3), indicating its immense spiritual value. In other contexts, qadr refers to divine decree and measurement: "Indeed, all things We created with predestination (qadr)" (54:49). This verse establishes that everything in creation is measured and determined by Allah's wisdom. Qadr is also one of the six pillars of faith (iman). Belief in divine decree (al-qadr) means accepting that Allah has knowledge of all things, has recorded all things, wills all that occurs, and creates all things. This does not negate human free will, people choose their actions, and Allah's knowledge encompasses those choices eternally. The concept of qadr brings peace to the believer. When hardship comes, they know it was decreed with wisdom. When success comes, they know it is from Allah. The Prophet said: "How wonderful is the affair of the believer! All his affairs are good. If he experiences ease, he is grateful, and that is good for him. If he experiences hardship, he is patient, and that is good for him" (Muslim). Understanding qadr prevents despair in difficulty and arrogance in success. For believers, recognizing the qadr of creation, the precise balance in the universe, the intricate design of the human body, the order of the seasons,is a source of awe and gratitude. It deepens faith and reinforces trust in Allah's wisdom and mercy. The ultimate qadr is the decree of Paradise for the righteous, and the believer strives to be among them.
