Wudu is "Ritual Ablution",the washing of specific parts of the body (face, arms, head, feet) before prayer. It is a physical and spiritual "reset". The Prophet said that as a person washes each part, their sins fall away with the last drop of water. Wudu is a condition for the validity of Salah and touching the Quran. It ensures that the believer enters the presence of Allah in a state of "Taharah" (purity), manifesting the principle that inward purity requires outward cleanliness. The obligatory acts of Wudu are washing the face (including rinsing the mouth and nose), washing the arms up to the elbows, wiping the head, and washing the feet up to the ankles. Recommended acts include washing the hands three times, using a miswak (tooth-stick), and reciting specific supplications. Wudu is nullified by using the restroom, passing gas, deep sleep, loss of consciousness, and touching the private parts without a barrier. Muslims are encouraged to maintain Wudu throughout the day, as the Prophet said it increases blessings and protection. Performing Wudu before sleep, before reciting Quran, and before each prayer keeps the believer in a constant state of spiritual readiness. Wudu is also required before touching the Quran, performing Tawaf around the Kaaba, and entering a state of Ihram for pilgrimage. The act of Wudu teaches mindfulness, discipline, and the importance of cleanliness as half of faith.
