Bid’ah, or "Innovation," refers to the historic and technical theological concept in Islam describing the introduction of new matters into the established religion (Deen) that have no basis in the Quran or the Sunnah. While "worldly innovation" in science and technology is encouraged as part of the vicegerency (Khilafah), religious Bid’ah is viewed as a peak of spiritual corruption and a definitive trial (Fitna) that can lead the believer away from the path of Truth. This concept represents the peak of spiritual vigilance and the Nur (light) of a faith that seeks to preserve the purity of the final revelation (Wahyi).
