Text Size:
Sajdah is the act of "Prostration" in the Islamic prayer (Salah). It is the point where the believer’s forehead, nose, two palms, two knees, and the toes of both feet touch the ground in total surrender to Allah. The Prophet (PBUH) said, "The closest a servant is to his Lord is when he is in prostration." It is the ultimate manifestation of humility and the total negation of pride. Beyond the formal prayer, the "Sajdah al-Tilawah" is performed when certain verses are recited in the Quran, and "Sajdah al-Shukr" is performed as a spontaneous act of gratitude for a blessing.
