The Salaf (Predecessors) refers to the first three generations of Muslims: the Sahabah (Companions), the Tabi'un (Successors), and the Tabi' al-Tabi'in (Successors of the Successors). The Prophet (PBUH) described these three generations as the best of his Ummah. In Islamic theology, the understanding and practice of the Salaf are used as the standard for interpreting the Quran and Sunnah. Following the path of the Salaf (Salafiyyah in its original sense) means adhering to the pure, original teachings of Islam before the emergence of various sects and philosophical innovations.
