Kafir Bayn'Aynayh

كافر بين عينيه
Text Size:
Kafir Bayn'aynayh is a phrase found in Hadith describing the False Messiah (Dajjal), stating that the word "Kafir" (disbeliever) will be written "between his eyes." This miraculous sign will be visible to every true believer, regardless of whether they are literate or illiterate, while those who are spiritually blind will be unable to see it. This emphasizes that discernment in the end times will be a matter of "Basirah" (spiritual insight) and the light of Iman, rather than mere physical sight or intellectual ability, protecting the faithful from his deception. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "The Dajjal will have written between his eyes: 'Kafir.' Every believer will read it, whether literate or illiterate" (Muslim). This Hadith highlights that faith provides a special perception. The believer sees what the disbeliever cannot. This is a sign of Allah's mercy to the believers, they will not be deceived by the Dajjal's false miracles because they have the light of faith. The letters "Kafir" (disbeliever) reflect the Dajjal's true nature. Despite his claims to divinity, he is a disbeliever, and his true identity is revealed to those who have faith. The ability to read these letters is not about literacy; it is about spiritual insight. A believer who cannot read or write will still be able to read them, while a disbeliever who is a scholar will not. For believers, this is a reminder that true knowledge is from Allah. The most learned person without faith is blind to spiritual realities. The most humble believer with faith sees what others miss. The believer cultivates this spiritual insight through faith, prayer, and the remembrance of Allah. The Prophet also taught specific protections against the Dajjal: reciting the first ten verses of Surah Al-Kahf, seeking refuge in Allah from his trial, and staying far from him when he appears. The believer takes these precautions, trusting in Allah's protection. The ultimate protection is faith itself. The believer who is grounded in faith will see the Dajjal for what he is,a liar and a pretender. They will not be deceived by his miracles, knowing that they are tricks, not signs of divinity. The Dajjal's mark between his eyes is a sign of Allah's mercy. He could have concealed his true nature, but Allah made it evident for the believers. The believer is grateful for this mercy and remains steadfast in faith.
