Tahajjud

Tahajjud, or the "Late Night Prayer," refers to the historic and highly recommended voluntary prayer performed during the final third of the night, after waking from sleep. Representing the peak of spiritual intimacy (Qurb) and the Nur (light) of a faith that views the night as a primary time for the intimate conversation with the Creator (Munajat), Tahajjud is described in the Quran (Surah Al-Isra 17:79) as a means of attaining a "praiseworthy station."
