Akl mal al-Yateem (Consuming the wealth of the orphan) is one of the "Kaba'ir" (major sins) in Islam. The Quran warns that those who unjustly consume the property of orphans are "eating fire into their bellies." It highlights the "Adl" (justice) of the Shariah in protecting the most vulnerable. For the "Ummah," this is a stern reminder of the sanctity of "Amanah" (trust) and the severe "Hisab" (accountability) awaiting those who exploit the weak for worldly gain. The Quran says: "Indeed, those who unjustly consume the wealth of orphans are only consuming fire into their bellies, and they will burn in a blazing fire" (4:10). This verse is a severe warning. Orphans are among the most vulnerable. They have lost their parents and need protection. Islam commands guardians to protect their wealth, invest it wisely, and return it when they reach maturity. The Prophet said: "Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah" (Bukhari). The orphan's supplication is especially powerful. The guardian must not mix the orphan's wealth with his own. If there is need, he may take only what is fair for his service. The Quran commands: "And do not approach the orphan's property except in a way that is best until he reaches maturity" (17:34). Consuming orphan's wealth is a major sin. It is a betrayal of trust and a violation of the rights of the vulnerable. The punishment is severe, fire in the Hereafter. For believers, the wealth of orphans is sacred. They protect it, invest it carefully, and return it fully. They know that Allah is watching and will hold them accountable. The ultimate protection is for the believer to be just, especially with those who have no one to protect them. The believer treats orphans with kindness and justice, seeking Allah's pleasure and avoiding His punishment.
