The science of Tashrih, or "Anatomy," refers to the historic and monumentally significant Islamic study of the structure of the human body and its physiological systems. Representing the peak of early Islamic intellectual Itqan (perfection) and scientific Izzah (honor), scholars like Al-Razi and Ibn Sina integrated the knowledge of antiquity with original clinical observation and the Nur (light) of a faith that views the human form as a primary "Ayah" (sign) of the Creator’s wisdom. Tashrih represents the Nur and the analytical vigor of a civilization that sought to master the Mizan (balance) of the body for the purpose of Shifa (healing) and the preservation of life for the pleasure of their Lord and the benefit of all humanity.
Theologically, the study of anatomy was an act of Ubudiyyah (servitude) and a manifestation of the Hikmah (wisdom) of Divine law in the organization of the human potential.
