Imam Malik (d. 795 CE) was the founder of the "Maliki" school of jurisprudence and the "Imam of Medina." He was a towering scholar of "Hadith" and "Fiqh," famously known for his work "Al-Muwatta"-one of the earliest collections of Islamic law. Imam Malik placed great emphasis on the "Amal of the People of Medina" (the practice of the community that lived with the Prophet) as a source of law. Known for his profound respect for the Prophet (PBUH) and his rigorous scholarship, his "Madhhab" remains a pillar of the Sunni tradition, particularly in North and West Africa.
