Fifth Kalima (Istighfar)

كلمة الاستغفار
Text Size:
The Fifth Kalima (Kalimat al-Istighfar) is the declaration of seeking forgiveness from Allah (SWT) for one's sins and shortcomings. It is expressed as: "Astaghfirullah rabbi min kulli dhanbin wa atubu ilayh" (I seek forgiveness from Allah, my Lord, from every sin, and I turn to Him in repentance). This represents the peak of Islamic spiritual Itqan (perfection) and the Nur (light) of a faith that provides a constant path to purification and renewal. The Fifth Kalima serves as a definitive Hujjah (proof) of the merciful nature of Allah and the believer's need for continuous repentance (Tawbah), providing the Ummah with the Sakina (tranquility) and the hope that comes from knowing that the door of forgiveness is always open for the pleasure of their Lord.

Theologically, the declaration of seeking forgiveness is a manifestation of the principle of Divine Mercy (Rahmah) and the Hikmah (wisdom) of Divine law in the development of the human potential. It reflects the Nur of a faith that views the admission of fault as a primary means of attaining Basirah (spiritual insight) and the purification of the soul. The practice of Istighfar, encompassing all times and states, serves as a Burhan (proof) of the intellectual and moral vitality of the Islamic tradition, which balances the fear of sin with the hope of forgiveness. This history reflects the Mizan (balance) between human imperfection and Divine mercy. Historically, the recitation of the Fifth Kalima has provided the Ummah with the moral resilience and the social stability needed to maintain their connection to Allah despite their shortcomings. It underscores the absolute duty of every believer to seek forgiveness regularly and to be a witness to humanity through the power of integrity and radiant achievement.

For the modern Ummah, the legacy of the Fifth Kalima is a source of immense hope and a roadmap for contemporary spiritual and personal reform. It teaches the believers the value of humility, the beauty of unshakeable faith, and the importance of maintaining an ethical and honest relationship with their own failings. In a modern world often characterized by denial of fault and the erosion of accountability, the tradition of "Seeking Forgiveness" provides a roadmap for internal peace and psychological health. It encourages a culture of Ihsan (excellence) and communal responsibility.
