Second Kalima (Shahadat)

كلمة الشهادة
Text Size:
The Second Kalima (Kalimat ash-Shahadah) is the declaration of faith that bears witness to the Oneness of Allah and the prophethood of Muhammad (PBUH). It is expressed as: "Ashhadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ashhadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa rasuluh" (I bear witness that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and messenger). This represents the peak of Islamic spiritual Itqan (perfection) and the Nur (light) of a faith that requires both internal conviction and external testimony. The Second Kalima serves as a definitive Hujjah (proof) of the core of Islamic belief, providing the Ummah with the formal entry into the faith and the constant reminder of the foundational truths for the pleasure of their Lord.

Theologically, the testimony of faith is a manifestation of the principle of Tawhid (oneness) and the Hikmah (wisdom) of Divine law in the guidance of humanity. It reflects the Nur of a faith that views the verbal and internal witness as a primary means of attaining Basirah (spiritual insight) and the acceptance of the believer. The structure of the Shahadah, first witnessing to Allah, then to His Messenger, serves as a Burhan (proof) of the intellectual and moral vitality of the Islamic tradition, which prioritizes the Creator before all else. This history reflects the Mizan (balance) between the assertion of Tawhid and the acceptance of prophethood. Historically, the Shahadah has provided the Ummah with the moral resilience and the social stability needed to maintain their identity through the centuries. It underscores the absolute duty of every believer to bear witness to the Truth and to be a witness to humanity through the power of integrity and radiant achievement.

For the modern Ummah, the legacy of the Second Kalima is a source of immense pride and a roadmap for contemporary spiritual and personal reform. It teaches the believers the value of testimony, the beauty of unshakeable faith, and the importance of maintaining an ethical and honest relationship with the core of their belief. In a modern world often characterized by relativism and the erosion of truth claims, the tradition of "The Witness" provides a roadmap for internal peace and certainty. It encourages a culture of Ihsan (excellence) and communal responsibility.
