Nahl (The Bee) is the title of the 16th Surah of the Quran. Allah highlights the bee as a sign of His creative power and wisdom. The Quran mentions how the bee follows the paths of its Lord and produces honey, which contains "shifa" (healing) for mankind. In Islamic tradition, the believer is often compared to a bee: they only consume what is pure, they only produce what is beneficial, and they work for the good of the community without causing damage to the environment. Surah Al-Nahl (The Bee) was revealed in Mecca. It is named after the bee mentioned in verse 68-69: "And your Lord inspired to the bee, 'Take for yourself among the mountains, houses, and among the trees and [in] that which they construct. Then eat from all the fruits and follow the ways of your Lord laid down for you.' There emerges from their bellies a drink of varying colors in which there is healing for people. Indeed, in that is a sign for a people who give thought." The bee is a sign of Allah's creation. It follows divine inspiration, builds intricate structures, produces honey, and benefits humanity. The bee is also a model for believers. They consume what is pure, produce what is beneficial, and work for the community. The believer, like the bee, does not harm others and contributes to the good. For believers, Nahl is a reminder to reflect on creation. The bee shows Allah's wisdom, guidance, and provision. The believer learns from the bee to be productive, pure, and beneficial to others, following the paths of their Lord.
