Hikmah in Dawah refers to "Wisdom" when calling others to Islam. The Quran commands: "Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction." This means that a caller (Da'i) must understand the context, personality, and needs of their audience. It involves using soft speech, avoiding unnecessary confrontation, and presenting the faith in a logical and appealing manner. Hikmah ensures that the message of Islam is not distorted by the harshness of the messenger, following the example of the Prophet (PBUH) who was known for his extreme gentleness and strategic patience. Wisdom in da'wah requires knowledge. The caller must know what they are talking about, understanding the Quran, Sunnah, and the issues they are addressing. Ignorance can do more harm than good. Wisdom also requires understanding the audience. Different people have different backgrounds, questions, and sensitivities. The caller tailors their approach to the listener. Wisdom involves knowing when to speak and when to remain silent. Sometimes a direct approach is appropriate; other times, it is better to wait for a more receptive moment. The Prophet said: "Give glad tidings, not cause aversion; make things easy, not difficult" (Bukhari). Wisdom includes using examples and analogies that the listener can relate to. The Quran uses parables (amthal) to convey deep truths in accessible ways. The caller uses similar methods, connecting Islamic teachings to the listener's experience. Wisdom also involves choosing the right language. The caller speaks in a way that the listener can understand, avoiding jargon or overly technical terms. They present Islam as a solution to the listener's needs and questions. For believers, hikmah in da'wah is essential. They do not argue for the sake of arguing but seek to convey truth with gentleness. They do not become defensive or aggressive when faced with hostility but respond with patience and dignity. They follow the example of the Prophet, who dealt with those who opposed him with patience and forgiveness. The ultimate wisdom is to trust in Allah's guidance. The caller plants the seed; Allah causes it to grow. They do not become discouraged if people reject the message, knowing that guidance is from Allah. They continue to invite with wisdom, hope, and patience, trusting that Allah's mercy is vast and that their efforts are rewarded.
