Yawm Al-Umrah

يوم العمرة
Text Size:
Yawm al-Umrah (Umrah Day) refers to the performance of the lesser pilgrimage to Mecca, which can be undertaken at any time of the year. While not a designated "day" in the Islamic calendar like the Day of Arafat, the term may be used in some communities to organize group Umrah trips or celebrate the completion of Umrah. Umrah consists of entering the state of Ihram (ritual consecration), performing Tawaf (circumambulation of the Kaaba), Sa'i (walking between Safa and Marwah), and shaving or trimming the hair. Unlike Hajj, which has specific dates and additional rituals, Umrah is more flexible and accessible. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Umrah is an expiation for sins committed between it and the previous Umrah" (Bukhari and Muslim). He performed Umrah four times in his lifetime. Performing Umrah during Ramadan carries special virtue, as the Prophet said: "Umrah in Ramadan is equivalent to Hajj (in reward)" (Bukhari and Muslim)-though it does not fulfill the obligation of Hajj. Yawm al-Umrah reminds Muslims of the continuous opportunity to visit the sacred house of Allah, renew their faith, and experience the spiritual atmosphere of Mecca. It emphasizes that worship is not limited to specific times but remains accessible throughout the year, encouraging frequent connection with the holiest sites in Islam.
