Yawm Al-Din

يوم الدين
Text Size:
Yawm al-Din (the Day of Judgment or Reckoning) is a primary name for the Day of Resurrection, emphasizing that Allah will judge all beings according to their deeds. It appears in Surah al-Fatihah: "Master of the Day of Judgment" (1:4). Every soul will receive exactly what it earned, good rewarded and evil punished, with perfect fairness. Belief in this day is one of the six pillars of faith (iman).

On this day, every deed will be accounted for. The Quran says: "Allah will pay them in full their rightful due, and they will know that Allah is the evident Truth" (24:25). Judgment will be comprehensive; every soul will be questioned, and their own limbs will testify against them. Each person will be accountable for their own deeds, and no one can bear another's burden. The only intercession will be with Allah's permission.

Belief in Yawm al-Din shapes ethics by creating accountability. It also provides hope; even if justice seems absent in this world, it will be established in the next. The believer prepares by living righteously and seeking forgiveness. The Day of Judgment is described with vivid imagery: the sky splitting, mountains crumbling, and the earth shaking. It is a day of great terror for some, but of peace for the believers.

The angels will greet the believers: "Peace be upon you for what you patiently endured" (13:24). Yawm al-Din is a day of complete justice and the final manifestation of Allah's mercy and justice. The believer lives as a "traveler" in this world, orienting every action toward the inevitable reckoning, knowing that no act escapes Allah's knowledge.
