Prevalence Of Ignorance

ظهور الجهل
Text Size:
Prevalence of Ignorance (Zuhur al-Jahl) refers to one of the major signs of the end times mentioned in prophetic Hadith, where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) described that knowledge will diminish and ignorance will become widespread as the Hour approaches. This concept represents the peak of Islamic eschatological Itqan (perfection) and the Nur (light) of a faith that warns against the erosion of learning and the rise of those who speak without knowledge. It serves as a definitive Hujjah (proof) of the absolute importance of preserving Islamic knowledge (Ilm) and the dangers of ignorance, providing the Ummah with the Sakina (tranquility) and the guidance needed to protect their intellectual heritage for the pleasure of their Lord.

Theologically, the concept of the Prevalence of Ignorance is a manifestation of the principle of Divine Justice and the Hikmah (wisdom) of Divine law in the organization of human affairs. It reflects the Nur of a faith that views the preservation of knowledge as a primary manifestation of worship and noble character. The prophetic warning against the spread of ignorance serves as a Burhan (proof) of the intellectual and moral vitality of the Islamic tradition, which prioritizes education and the transmission of authentic knowledge. This history reflects the Mizan (balance) between the accessibility of learning and the responsibility to teach correctly. Historically, this warning has provided the Ummah with the moral resilience and the social stability needed to establish institutions of learning and to protect the integrity of religious knowledge.

For the modern Ummah, the legacy of this prophetic sign is a source of reflection and a roadmap for contemporary educational and spiritual reform. It teaches the believers the value of knowledge, the beauty of unshakeable faith, and the importance of maintaining an ethical and honest relationship with learning. In a modern world often characterized by the proliferation of misinformation and the erosion of authentic scholarship, the tradition of "The Spread of Ignorance" provides a roadmap for the pursuit of social justice and the protection of intellectual integrity. It encourages a culture of Ihsan (excellence) and communal responsibility.
