Yawm al-Dhuyuf (Guests Day) is an observance celebrating the Islamic value of hospitality (Diyafah) and honoring guests as bearers of blessing. While not a formal religious holiday with specific rituals, this day may be observed in some Muslim communities through special gatherings, inviting guests for meals, and educational programs about the importance of hospitality in Islam. The concept is deeply rooted in Islamic tradition, with numerous Quranic verses and Prophetic teachings emphasizing gracious treatment of guests. The Quran highlights Prophet Ibrahim's (Abraham) exemplary hospitality when he rushed to serve his angelic guests: "Has there reached you the story of the honored guests of Abraham? When they entered upon him and said, 'Peace.' He said, 'Peace, (you are) a people unknown.' Then he went to his family and brought a fat [roasted] calf" (51:24-26). The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) declared: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him honor his guest" (Bukhari and Muslim). He specified that hospitality extends for three days, with special honor on the first day, and that exceeding this generously is charity. Islamic hospitality includes welcoming guests warmly, offering the best food available, and creating an atmosphere of comfort and respect. Yawm al-Dhuyuf reminds Muslims that opening one's home and heart to others reflects faith and brings barakah (blessing).
