Ibn al-Qayyim al-Jawziyya (1292–1350 CE) was a renowned Islamic scholar, jurist, and spiritual writer who was the primary student of Ibn Taymiyyah. He is celebrated for his deep insights into the "Amal al-Qulub" (actions of the heart) and his ability to synthesize rigorous legal scholarship with spiritual purification (Tazkiyah). His works, such as Madarij al-Salikin and Zad al-Ma'ad, remain essential reading for students of Islamic ethics and jurisprudence. He emphasized the importance of aligning human will with divine love, arguing that true happiness is found only through the sincere worship and remembrance of Allah. Ibn al-Qayyim was born in Damascus in 691 AH (1292 CE). He was a student of Ibn Taymiyyah and was deeply influenced by his methodology. He excelled in fiqh, Hadith, tafsir, and spirituality. He was imprisoned with his teacher for his views. His works are known for their depth, clarity, and spiritual insight. Madarij al-Salikin (Ranks of the Seekers) is a commentary on a work on spirituality, exploring the stages of the spiritual path. Zad al-Ma'ad (Provisions for the Hereafter) covers the life of the Prophet, his medicine, and his guidance. He also wrote Al-Fawa'id (The Benefits) and many other works. He emphasized the importance of sincere intention, love of Allah, and following the Prophet. He died in Damascus in 751 AH (1350 CE). For believers, Ibn al-Qayyim is a model of integrating knowledge, spirituality, and action. His works provide guidance for both legal matters and spiritual growth. The believer learns from him to combine rigorous scholarship with deep devotion, seeking to know Allah and follow His Prophet.
